One of the most endangered plant species in the area is the German tamarisk (Myricaria germanica). It can be found only in two sites at the confluence of the Drava and Mura at Legrad, and these two sites are home to the only natural population in Croatia. Therefore, the preservation of this species is of national conservation importance. Another critically endangered plant species is the Dwarf cattail (Typha minima). It used to be a common river plant, but it has gone extinct due to human activities (e.g. the construction of hydropower dams, river regulation). Based on different management measures and re-introduction programs, the population of these two plants will be re-established.
